Our focus will be preaching on what a Biblical Family is, according to GOD’s Word. Through the series, we will instruct on how a Biblical Family is one that lines up with Biblical principles and one in which each member understands and fulfills his or her GOD-given role. The family is not an institution designed by man, but created by GOD, and man has been given the responsibility of stewardship over it. One of the primary principles of the family unit is that it involves a commitment ordained by GOD for the lifetime of the members. It is one comprised of one man, one woman—his spouse, and their offspring or adopted children. In it, the husband and wife are responsible for equally managing and maintaining its function.

Although divorce is easy-living and second-hand in our culture, the Bible tells us that GOD HATES divorce (Malachi 2:16). Therefore, the Biblical Family is one that sticks together, strengthened by the Word of GOD, adherent to it, and joyfully surrendered to His Will.

Join us for this Fun and Exciting series, where each member of the family will be given due attention and their responsibilities relayed from a TRUE, BIBLICAL perspective.

Being a pastor is a real blessing for me.  God has given me experiences in my past life that give me an opportunity to point others to Him in difficult times.  Recently, I was able to glorify God with a believer, even in time of certain turmoil and heartache.  We sat there and shared tears of joy and satisfaction that our lives would not end in eternal torment, but that we are passing onto a Saviour that loves us, despite our current nature.

Too often this world creeps into our lives and we look around and suddenly realize that someone has changed it right before our eyes.  For the new convert this is difficult to understand, and for the seasoned Saint as well.  Too often the flesh is used to conversations and walks fo the world, and when we begin a familiar walk, we suddenly realize, through the Holy Spirit, that we are on the wrong path.

Paul speaks of a walk that we must pursue.  Certainly the vocation of Pastor is unique to every Man, and not all men meet the qualifications, Biblically. Nor are some called of God to the Pastorate but left to serve in other capacities (Some are sadly called by the church, or momma and daddy).  But those God does call are of a special nature to him.  He holds them high in His thoughts, as the Sun and Stars (Matt. 13:43; Dan 12:3). We are ordained to a particular service by God before all men, even if the calling is just to be a faithful Saint.  God anoints each believer with his Holy Spirit and sets us aside for a particular work (1John 2:27; Rom 8:28).

Philippians 2:13-15  “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.  (14)  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:  (15)  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”

For years I listened to NPR radio in the mornings and felt that though it was liberal in fashion, it had a good balance of News from all perspectives (I also listen to FOX, BBC, & Bloomberg).  But this morning, I was faced with the fact that NPR has an agenda that does not align with my own; a homosexual one, which is sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. It is an agenda that does not align with the Word of God.  So like any good Christian SHOULD do, I turned it off.  But not only that, I know I cannot listen to it any more, because it is a road I am not to walk on. 

I am ordained to the Pastorate, a Reverend, not only by men of my faith, but by God Himself. These stark reminders of our responsibility to be Holy because we are a Holy people, chosen by God, are to be well noted, and obeyed.  God has given to us salvation, chosen us through His son.  We are the ransom bride.  Should we not be blameless and spotless at the wedding?

Today we offered thanks to God for those Men of God that provided pulpit supply for our church over the past two years.  What a great day in the Lord.  The food was good, the fellowship was better, but the highlight was not the planter of the church showing up, it was not the many preachers that testified to their Lord of His goodness, but it was a testimony of one the new converts of the church.

Today we found out God had answered her prayers.  She had been praying since her conversion to get a new job that would help her begin her steady walk with Christ and renew her relationship with her family.  This one lost sheep God had found, and all of Heaven rejoiced upon her conversion.  We had prayed for her growth in the Lord, and that she would continue on her walk with God, that God would bless her with a job that put her in a better position.

This is an answer to prayer.  This was the best part of the day.  And we offered thanks unto our God that blessed us in this fashion.  It is clearly evident, that the regenerated soul should be blessed by God. His word promises it to us (Malachi 3:10).

It is just another example of how God is working here at Calvary.  It proves what we always say…

God is Good!

In a 1776 letter to Elizabeth Adams, one of the founding fathers of our country, Samuel Adams, wrote:

“…I have receivd your Letter of the 9th of Nove, for which I am much obligd to you. If this City should be surrenderd, I should by no means dispair of our Cause. It is a righteous Cause and I am fully perswaded righteous Heaven will succeed it. Congress will adjourn to Baltimore in Maryland, about 120 Miles from this place, when Necessity requires it and not be-fore. It is agreed to appoint a Day of Prayer, & a Come will bring in a Resolution for that purpose This day.

Our founding fathers knew the importance of Liberty and gave their lives for it.

This Independence Day season, let us remember that all of them were Christians & Statesmen, but mostly, they were believers in a Country that should Fear God and Give Glory to Him.  As we remember the cost of our great nation, let us remember the God that many died to serve and worship freely, an Almighty God, that blessed a nation and gave its people a trust, that they woud be One Nation Under God, with Liberty and Justice for All.

The other two questions are simple: I am from everywhere, really.  As an Army Brat, we claim the last place our parents were stationed or retired, so South Carolina would be it.

The sad reality of my travels and disposable youth is that when we settled down, I grew up in an area saturated with churches, but at no point did one reach out to me with the Gospel.  It took 30+ years to hear the true Gospel preached, even in the Buckle of the Bible Belt.  So that leads to the “Why am I here?”  God has led me here.  What do I plan to do?  I plan to simply carry out the Great Commission and shepherd the flock He has given me, by disciplining both new and seasoned Christians in their walk with God.

After all, with the plethora of churches we have here today, my burden is still carried and is still the same: is the True Gospelbeing preached?  God’s Grace and Message is not wrapped up in a program, praise team, uplifting sermonette, or some other church sanctioned event, but it is delivered by the foolishness of preaching.  Psalm 8 speaks of the love of God given to man, unworthy man, and how He wants us to be his children.  He gave us the power to be Sons of God, but yet our Churches are saturated with ANTI-confrontational evangelism.

The Christian life is impressive, the walk is exemplary, and the every day testimony does cause other’s to notice Christ’s influence; but the reaching out to the lost, to the one who has never heard the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, who has never beheld the lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world, who has not heard of that the Kingdom of God is at hand, it has disappeared for that one soul… that one that was me.

In the middle of the bible belt, amongst churches built on the philosophies and best sellers of Malphurs, Warren, Stetzer, Sylvia, Reid, et. al., not once did I really care about why my neighbor was wholesome and good; I didn’t care if he was a Christian or not; I didn’t even want to know.  It wasn’t until I was faced with the questions of an evangelical preacher and God’s Word did I want to know. 

ARE YOU GOING TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE?

Profound words.  Clear and to the point.  It was a simple message.  And I got it.

I wanted to be born again.  I wanted eternal security.  I wanted to serve a higher calling.

No program offered me that.  No required reading or title in seminary came close to that.  No systematic theology text could reveal it to me.  It was simply the preaching of the Word of God, and His Holy Spirit that drew me to Him.  It was then that I asked God to forgive me of my sins; it was then I repented and turned away form them; it was then that I was born a new creature in Christ.

Where did I come from, why am I here, and what am I going to do?  Three questions I will be asked many times before the year 2009 is over.
